With the rapidly changing situation in the US online poker industry, a lot of poker players are very interested in the current situation so they can find out if there are any safe places remaining to play online poker.
Luckily, such online poker sites still exist. Carbon Poker is the flagship poker skin of the Merge Gaming Network and has seen its traffic rapidly increase since the dreaded ‘Black Friday’. While other Merge Gaming skins, such as Lock Poker, are closing their doors to new US players, Carbon Poker is still accepting US players and as a result, it is really the only choice for players from the US.
Poker Sites That Have Close Their Doors To US Players
As many people are well aware, a number of the biggest poker sites stopped accepting US players on Black Friday and even stopped these players playing at all. These sites include Pokerstars, Full Tilt Poker, UB.com and Absolute Poker. While there were many fears about the state of these US players funds, sites such as PokerStars have allowed the US players to withdraw their poker bankrolls that were stuck on the website. While there has been a bit of controversy regarding the situation with Full Tilt Poker, it seems that this will be resolved and US players will be able to withdraw their funds.
In regards to the situation on these sites for non-US players, it seems like it is business as usual. While the Cereus Network (UB.com and Absolute Poker) has effectively died, Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker still have very healthy player numbers and the drop in players at PokerStars was barely noticeable, showing its strength in the online poker industry.
Since Black Friday other poker sites have also become a target for the US department of justice. The major sites that were targeted were Truepoker.com and Doylesroom.com, who had their primary domain names seized. However, Doyles Room has since released a statement stating that it is running smoothly and all player balances are safe: “Despite the domain change, all other business activities are not affected. All player account balances and information are safe, secure and kept confidential. Our software remains open and accessible to players around the world. And our ongoing promotions continue to run as normal.”
While this is reassuring information from DoylesRoom, Carbon Poker is generally recommended and as the current first choice for any US poker players seeking to play online poker.
Merge Gaming Stop Rakeback
Starting from 1st June 2011, Merge Gaming officially stopped offering rakeback deals to new players. Instead, they have replaced this with a VIP scheme that allows players to get the equivalent of 35% rakeback (the deal that new players were on before) and it is not particularly challenging at all to reach the rake requirement to gain access to the highest VIP level. On top of this, players can also receive a 100% up to $600 bonus upon sign-up; see below.
